About
Where the name came from
It started as a joke about what I actually do all day, and then it stopped being one, because it turned out to be the most accurate description available.
Most trades are organised around a single material. That works fine when your problem is made of a single material. Out here it almost never is: the wall that has to come out is holding a cabinet run, the leak is a tile problem wearing a plumbing costume, and the reason the door will not close is the floor.
So the job is usually two jobs. Working out what is actually wrong, and then fixing it. Most people can find someone to do the second half. The first half is where the money goes missing.
Custom Home Mechanics is the outfit built around doing both — and around the boring commitments that make it worth anything: one price, one person, and the awkward news delivered early while it is still cheap.

Where it operates
Kauaʻi is the chapter that operates today
There is no second location and no franchise offering. If your house is on the island, the chapter is where the phone is answered and where the work gets booked.
